Monday, 29 May 2006 : The Day of Memory

Memorial Day is upon us. Forget the sales for ten minutes, buck the commercialism, and deeply grok the meaning (traditional) of the day. For whatever reason, our leaders have almost consistently kept us in some state of military conflict since... a long time, I suppose. Noam Chomsky says since the 30's? Or was it Korea? For whatever reasons; financial duress, the need for college money, something (ANYTHING) different to do, family pressure, true belief in an imperialistic regime, our sons and daughters have given their time, energy, and indeed lives to further the cause of these leaders. While I personally do not necessarily agree with the ulteriour motivations of the powers that be, I have the utmost compassion for those making a sacrifice I have not seen fit to make for the sake of other's political machinations. THAT being say, let us have a humbling Memorial Day and maybe NOT go spend money to increase the coffers of corporations for whom our young boys and girls tend to die for.

I see that I have not posted any cats for voting or captioning. I have been otherwise engaged. But for the most part there is a lull between this last storm and the next currently, and I should be able to get stuff rolling here in a few days. Gimme a break, gimme a break.. break me off a piece of that Kit-Kat bar.

Thanks to Vassilisa for not being insane on me for the last 48 hours. And thanks to YOU for sticking with us the last 5.5 years! Party on!
